Type Locality and Naming

By the village of Pskent, Tashkent region. Ya.M. Khayfets et al., 1970.

Synonym: Pskent Suite, Пскентская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Forms the lower part of the brown-colored molasse section. Brown, brownish-gray, gypsiferous siltstone (aleurolites) with subordinate brownish-gray sandstones, gravelites, and conglomerates. Thickness up to 485 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies with erosion on pale pink nodular limestones and marls (carbonate weathering crusts) of the Irtash Fm or red-colored Oligocene-Miocene Chulin Fm.

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Toytyubin Fm

Regional extent

In the Prishashkent depression (the specific square is not specified). B.I. Pinhasov (144; 145) correlates it with the lower part of the section of the upper Pliocene-Eopleistocene brown-colored molasse formation of the Upper TienShan Gr. It is correlated with the Chatkal Fm, Bogustan Fm, and Beldersay Fm, S+D (late-middle Pliocene) of V.A. Zakharovich (1978), and the Gidzhal Fm of L.D. Anpleyeva (Koloyarov et al., 1977).

Contains ostracods - Ilyocypris bradyi Sars., Cyprinotus sp., Eucypris sp., Zonocypris membranae (Liv.), Candoniella albicans (Brady), C. schubinae Mand., Potamocypris longisetosa Bron., Cyprinotus vialovi Schn. of the late Pliocene.
